#SubstanceOverHype Review: @Kon_krete ft. KEB – My Day Ones

As of late you have been introduced to music from Botswana and it is no surprise that your response has been nothing but positive, now it would be a stark insult to the scene if you remain in oblivion when it comes to the O.G of their scene by the name of Konkrete We Nkalanga. He has a heart moving track with another star power, very seasoned rapper by the alias KEB on My Day Ones and the crooner Moetapele. You should resonate with the concept of having a circle safeguarded by thy day ones; they have been with you from the days of experiencing adversities and they were with you all the way to a road which leads to affluence. Now this song strings a similar theme, with an added value of rapping brilliantly, crisp cadence and sharp sense of storytelling. The Man-E produced joint evokes a sundowner vibe, matter of fact it does one better, the entire ambiance switches to a more 90s classic influenced scenery and this is all created by a song that was released in 2017. KEB does what he is proficient in which is to deliver a verse eloquently as soon as he utters “White Tee with a gold chain/ Lighties now know the name/You might see me where the Pros hang/” with a mind of a soldier he continues to zoom his life tale of what stardom has translated to with dim-witted chicks gravitating towards him yet his day ones are the coldest and all these rappers aren’t any form of competition but his young ones. The hook bridges the two stanzas seamlessly with Moetapele hitting notes with a smooth pitch. Konrete showcases why he is a legend with his dense pattern of rhyming convoyed by his thick toned voice and subject matter related raps. His idea of completing a cypher is if his day ones feast when he wins, now that is the quintessence of loyalty and being a day one. “I’m like a prophet I can see money already/ Soul of a mafia, old school Freddy/ All snakes in the grass I cut them off/and burn em all.” He reveals his age at the time, so add two years then you will know how old he is in 2019 that will escalate the amount of respect you have for him. Loyalty is one variable that binds friendships, families and lovers. When you think the track is done, Cedric Ncube dishes out a string of melodies with his electrifying guitar just to tail it in style.
